PATH FOUNDATION PHILIPPINES
INC (PFPI) is a Filipino non-profit organization dedicated
to health and environmentally sustainable development. PFPI has more
than 14 years of experience in the prevention and control of STD/HIV/AIDS,
the social marketing of contraceptives and STD drug kits, and the
implementation of population-environment studies and field-based activities.
This experience spans the fields of population, reproductive health,
coastal conservation, alternative livelihood and policy advocacy.
Over the past 10 years, PDI/PDA and PFPI have collaborated and exchanged
knowledge on several important development programs. An example is
the Phil-Thai Technical Exchange Program for HIV/AIDS prevention (1995-2000),
which exposed several hundred Filipino policy makers and local executives
to Thailand’s 100% Condom Use Policy (CUP). Currently the same
organizations are collaborating on a series of Population-Environment
Leadership trainings for Filipino mayors and environmental NGO leaders
seeking to gain first hand knowledge of PDI/PDA’s community
based and integrated family planning, conservation and eco-tourism
development projects. www.pfpi.org/ipopcorm.php

THE UNIVERSITY OF
MELBOURNE has established itself as one of the finest in
Australia, if not the world. This is achieved by progressive management,
realistic visions for the future and strategic collaborations. Researchers
from the University have been working with the PDA and PDI in collaboration
on a research project for microbicides based with lemons, known as
the Manao Trials. By setting up properly controlled clinical trials
in current users, this will give us some invaluable clues about efficacy,
and make it much easier to design ethically acceptable microbicidal
trials in Thailand. www.unimelb.edu.au
